Bride and groom get covered in confetti

Destination wedding photographer

Destination weddings are more popular than ever, especially in Europe. Europe hosts some of the most amazing destination opportunities – from the beautiful Tuscan Hills in Italy to the French Rivera. You also have options for winter weddings in Iceland or maybe even Lapland?

Elopements are also really popular at the moment. This option is perfect if you both want to run off and getting married somewhere stunning, without the added stress of organising a big wedding.

HAVING YOUR WEDDING ABROAD

It’s really exciting to plan a destination wedding but, I would highly recommend booking a wedding planner to help you. They will know the area super well and have loads of awesome supplier recommendations that you can take advantage of.

EUROPEAN DESTINATION WEDDINGS

I’ve been lucky to shoot weddings in some fantastic European countries. One of my all time favourites was Georgia & Adam’s, I absolutely loved being their Dubai wedding photographer. I have photographed couples on a beach in Santorini, on the Amalfi Coast and in the Swedish wilderness. However, most of my destination weddings have been in Italy – I love being an Italy wedding photographer so much, it feels like a second home! Check out my top 5 elopement wedding destinations.

Weddings in Italy
I fell in love with this country whilst planning my own wedding. It offers everything you need from a destination wedding – stunning scenery, gorgeous weather and of course the wine! And although I don’t drink wine much, my fiancé Kelly certainly does! You may want a wedding in the middle of nowhere in the heart of Tuscany, or maybe you’d prefer the coast, the Amalfi Coast is just breathtaking. I especially loved being Becky & Tom’s Ravello wedding photographer.

Weddings in Ibiza
Ibiza is definitely up there in my favourite places to visit. It is the ideal place for a wedding – only a couple of hours away from the UK, so close enough to get all of your friends and family over for the big day really easily. There are so many incredible wedding venues to choose from such as Elixir Ibiza, Atzaro and Hacienda Na Xamena to name just a few.The atmosphere on this island is like no other, its hard to explain unless you’ve been. Super chilled, it would make a perfect location for a relaxed wedding day.

Weddings in Santorini
Santorini is becoming more and more popular as the destination wedding location of choice. The bright white buildings and the insane sunsets are just perfect for any wedding backdrop. Oia and Imerovigli are really poplar locations. I joined Dina and Nathaniel on their honeymoon in Imerovigli where we had a sunset shoot, then hopped across to the beach in Kamari for a sunrise shoot. The light here is a photographers dream, its just so bloody good! This is also featured on the Rock My Wedding blog.

Weddings in Turkey
Back in 2018 I headed out to Kalkan in Turkey for Hollie & Tom’s wedding and boy, has that place left its mark on me! I’ve been back twice since with Kelly and we absolutely love it. Amazing people and food to die for. It’s the perfect place to have a wedding. Hollie & Tom’s ceremony overlooked the Mediterranean from Villa Mavi Koy – a truly incredible setting ideal for an intimate wedding.

Weddings in Sweden
Sophia & Sipke’s wedding was in the middle of the Swedish countryside in a place called Sandvik. A beautiful place where Sophia grew up. I stayed a stones throw away from the family home so really felt part of the extended family on the day, an amazing feeling. I’d love to explore more of the amazing country and visit the centre of Stockholm.

WORLDWIDE DESTINATION WEDDINGS

If you open your wedding destination to worldwide then the possibilities are endless! Destination wedding photographers jet around the world on a regular basis to capture the most epic wedding days. The furthest I have been is Dubai for Georgie & Adam’s epic day at the Park Hyatt Dubai.

I have also travelled to some incredible places that would make stunning wedding locations.

Weddings in Sri Lanka This country is insane and probably my favourite place I’ve travelled to. The people are so friendly and welcoming and the scenery is on a different level. Sri Lanka has amazing beaches so if its a beach wedding you are looking for then this might just be the perfect place for your destination wedding.

Wedding in Australia I think everyone knows how awesome this country is and its a very popular wedding destination. Yes its super far away from Europe but, if you do choose to get married here then make it an epic trip to remember. If you are from Asia and the Middle East then you are even closer.

I proposed to Kelly at Ayers Rock and boy would that would make a super cool wedding location! Obviously Sydney is popular for weddings but there are so many options to choose from here.

Weddings in South Africa You might not think about South Africa as a wedding destination but let me tell you, you should definitely consider it. If you’re a wine drinker then why not get married in a beautiful vineyard. How incredible would that be? We travelled along the Garden Route from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and one of favourite stops along the way was Plettenberg Bay – this would make a great location for a wedding with it’s gorgeous beaches.

WHY CHOOSE A UK PHOTOGRAPHER FOR YOUR WEDDING ABROAD

You might wonder why couples would fly a UK photographer out to their destination wedding, but there’s loads of benefits for doing this!

I’ll always arrive at least two days before the wedding. This means no-one is worrying about delayed flights, and I get to visit the venue, meet wedding planners and scope out the best places for epic portraits well in advance!

Most importantly, it means I get to spend a lot of extra time with you and your guests, so everyone is super relaxed and at ease around me. This is the biggest part of getting the best candid photos that are full of emotion, and I’ll be able to capture any pre or post wedding events too.

Thinking about running away just the two of you? A big wedding is not for everyone – eloping gives you the opportunity to do EXACTLY what you want, just the two of you, uniquely you – and I can be there to capture every tiny moment.Check out my top tips to planning a destination wedding and then get in touch to tell me all your plans!
